War is apparently inevitable, and Paradis will have to be incredibly brutal to ward off invaders. The main thing in their way was/is the fools in charge who think the world is interested in peace with devils. It seems that a lot of the side characters understand that: the cadets, the protestors, and the Yeagerists. The world wasn't ready for any kind of peace negotiation with Eldians, and I'm sure that became clear to Eren while he was abroad.

Eren's attack, destroying the Marlean fleet, bought them time to prepare, but it won't help if all they do is drills on how to fight titans. Winning that war would be an extreme long shot. The entire world threatens war against them, and Eren is the boogieman who justifies that war. My guess would be that his harsh words were an attempt to wake Armin and Misaka from their naivety. I think he observed, first hand, the harsh realities of the world and the almost universal hatred of Eldians. I really doubt that Eren has changed all that much. This show has displayed some really fascinating nuance. It was brutal to watch the cadets turn on General Saides (Patrick Seitz) like that, the Jaegerists have full control now. The final scene with Levi torturing Zeke was so damn satisfying. As soon as Zeke started monologuing about getting away, you just knew he was fucked. Matt Mercer was at his absolute best having to bring down his own comrades, you could hear the hesitation in his voice and then the realization of what he had to do. Then we have Levi going full badass on Zeke, who finally attempts his escape by turning all the scouts into Titans. Eren is beyond a lost cause at this point, whether he’s being manipulated or not. Our poor Armin, he didn’t deserve that beatdown. The whole scene was so well done, and the performances from Bryce, Trina, and Josh were incredible.
When he told Mikasa that he always hated her, my heart actually broke. It was heartbreaking to hear him belittle Mikasa as nothing more than a slave to her name. Regardless of what Eren’s been through and how much he’s changed, I don’t get how he can treat the only 2 people in the entire world who actually cares about him like that.
